Walkathon raises money for AHA
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) in Sweetwater recently held their first annual 24-Hour Treadmill Walkathon on Friday, Feb. 17-Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at the hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Center.With February set aside as American Heart Month, the local hospital joined the nationwide effort to bring awareness to cardiovascular diseases. The American Heart Association (AHA) promotes physical activity and a healthy diet to lower the risk of developing heart disease while increasing overall health.Medical staff and volunteers from RPMH were available for all 24 hours to make sure the treadmills were always in use. Stretching routines and tips for appropriate exercises were also given by rehab therapists in attendance at the event.During the event, donations were taken to benefit the American Heart Association. In all, a total of $2,086 was given to aid the American Heart Association in battling cardiovascular disease and other medical related illness.RPMH Administrator Donna Boatright called the event "very successful" and noted that 86 walkers participated.
