Wallace crowned 2011 Miss Snake Charmer
Sweetwater High School classmates, all juniors, took home every award during the 52nd annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer pageant held Thursday night at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. Laney Wallace was crowned Miss Snake Charmer, while Carly Johnson received runner-up honors and Ashley Stevenson was awarded second runner-up.Both Wallace and Johnson tied for first place of the talent competition.Each winner and talent winner was awarded scholarship money.Wallace, the daughter of Tania Brown, sang and yodeled Patsy Montana song, “I Want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart.” Johnson, the daughter of Craig and Nancy Johnson, had fun with a hip-hop dance routine. Ashley Stevenson mixed things up with a magic routine for her talent. Stevenson is the daughter of Scott and Dwenette Stevenson.Also a Sweetwater High School junior, Tori Adams, was picked Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. She is the daughter of Gary and Michelle Adams. She also sang during the competition.The young talent did not end with the 11 pageant contestants, which included more singing and different styles of dancing. The audience was also entertained by Sweetwater elementary students who were winners of the local Star Search competition. In addition, Brittany Lashinski, 2010 queen, performed an encore of her drum routine from last year’s competition.Miss Snake Charmer pageant winners and contestants will participate in the activities of the Rattlesnake Round-Up, which begin today and are held through Sunday. Gates are open at the Nolan County Coliseum from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Check out rattlesnakeroundup.net for a listing of all the weekend’s events.
