Weather affecting local sports
With more rough weather in the forecast today, quite a few Nolan County sports teams continue to see their planned events affected.At press time this morn-ing, the Sweetwater varsity girls and boys basketball teams were planning to play their scheduled games against Wylie here today, though the times had not been officially announced.However, the games are still in doubt and could very well be moved to another date, since Wylie has called off classes today. Tuesday’s games here against Big Spring, which were also cancelled due to icy and snowy conditions, have tentatively been rescheduled for Saturday evening, with the varsity girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m. There is also a chance that if Wylie does not play here today, Big Spring may play Sweetwater here today since its game against Brownwood in Big Spring has been cancelled.The JV and freshman games are not expected to be played today or Saturday.But scheduled games involving Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell were expected to be played today. Roscoe and Blackwell will also have makeup games Saturday.Roscoe’s varsity teams were to play at Hamlin today and host Rotan on Saturday; Blackwell was to travel to Water Valley today and visit Garden City on Saturday; and Highland was to host Westbrook today.Sweetwater’s boys golf team is expected to open its season by going to Snyder’s tournament on Saturday, but the Sweetwater girls’ opening tournament at San Angelo has been cancelled due to the bad weather. They will try again to play at Wylie’s event Monday.The Sweetwater tennis team’s scheduled match with Cooper’s JV team on Thursday was also cancelled. The tennis team is scheduled to play again on Feb. 11 when it goes to the San Angelo Lake View tournament.
