Weidman is Artist of the Month

April 15, 2011

Dr. Weidman and her husband worked on a painting together. She said that her husband did the background and mountains, then worked in some trees. From there, she did the rest, "blending everything from what he did, into what I finished up with in the front."

Dr. Elaine Weidman is the Artist of the Month for April at the County-City Library. She has lived in Sweetwater for over 13 years with her husband, Rick Weidman who teaches at Sweetwater ISD.
Dr. Weidman and her husband originally met in Albuquerque, NM and say that fell in love at first sight. Six months later they were married, and have been married for over 17 years now. Mr. Weidman, mentioned that Dr. Weidman was a former Ms. Alabama in her younger years. Dr. Weidman retired after 35 years from her profession as an anesthetist. She also has her PhD in Health Care Management.
Just before retiring Dr. Weidman had been mingling with oil paints. She first tried acrylics, but noted, "They tend to dry quickly, which makes it more difficult to work with."
So she gave oil paints a try, and has been happy ever since. She has had no art training and is self-taught. She also sells her paintings.
Dr. Weidman’s art will be on display throughout the month of April The hours for the library are Monday from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
