Healthy Weight Week is Jan. 19-25, so to observe this event on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, residents can come to the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department and get weighed. There will be pamphlets available on eating right. Stay the New Year off right by getting healthy.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department is administering the flu vaccine on a walk-in basis. The cost is $20 for adults. (Medicare Part B accepted). Please call 235-5463 if you have questions. The regular immunization clinic is from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m. Effective Jan. 1, the administration fee for immunization has gone from $6 to $10. So, children (6 months to 18 years), who are eligible for VFC or adults eligible for vaccines under the adult safety net will pay $10. Medicaid and CHIPS accepted.Â If a person has private insurance, they must go to their private physician.
The health department will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
