Holliday — Weldon Steen, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Visitation was from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church in Holliday. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at Trent United Methodist Church in Trent, TX with Reverends Darryl Sewell and Norman Patton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Weldon was born July 23, 1931, in Sidney, TX to W.O. and Lucy Jane (Halbrook) Steen. He married Linda (Bennett) Spencer July 4, 2009 in Holliday. Weldon was a Methodist and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a cattle buyer and loved animals regardless of whether they were cattle or pets. He was a history buff and avid reader, instilling the love of reading to his children. Weldon loved baseball, especially the Texas Rangers. One of his many accomplishments was serving on the Trent School Board during desegregation.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Steen of Holliday; son, Wade Steen and wife Paula of Roswell, N.M.; daughter, Lindy Steen of Henderson; two step sons, Floyd Spencer and wife Lorena of Houston and Howard Spencer and wife Christie of Sugarland; step daughter, Ruth Sissom and husband Clint of Holliday; grandsons, Cody Hertel and wife Amy of Longview, Waylon Steen of San Antonio; granddaughters, Audra Frigon and husband Francios of San Antonio, Candice Steen of Roswell, N.M.; two great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; and one step great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Joyce Steen and Glenna Francis (Scott) Steen; and a sister, Tilda Lou Ridgeway.
