William Alexander "Bill" Armstrong Jr.

William Alexander (Bill) Armstrong, Jr. of Sweetwater, 79, passed away Feb. 27, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Vernon Baker and Rev. Chris Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
A visitation will be held at McCoy Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 9-10 a.m.
William Alexander (Bill) Armstrong, Jr. was born in Donna, Texas on Aug. 25, 1931, to William Alexander (Willie) Armstrong, Sr. and Ottie Mae Rogers Armstrong. He graduated from Donna High School where he played football and was a defensive and offensive lineman. He married Wilma Joyce Walker on Nov. 19, 1949, in Loraine, Texas. He worked for Higginbotham-Bartlett Lumber Company for over 40 years and Lawrence IGA. He was a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Sweetwater.
Survivors include his daughter, Patty Davis and husband Rick of Sweetwater; sons, Billy Rick Armstrong of Portland and twin sons Terry Armstrong of Sweetwater and Gary Armstrong and wife Zela of Sweetwater; brother-in-law, Gene Heath of Sweetwater; two granddaughters, Staci Armstrong of Abilene and Alex Armstrong of Sweetwater; grandson, Bo Armstrong and wife Rachael of Little Rock, Arkansas; four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Clarissa Armstrong and Khali and Brody Engle, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Armstrong on March 7, 2001, his parents, a sister and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Virg Pruitt, Kerry Baker, Michael Hale, Randy Hanes, Carey Wann and Jim Porter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Strother, Danny Wann, John Meadows, Tony Ham, Dr. Larry McEachern, Bud Feagan and Bill Tucker.
