Funeral services for Winnie Thelma Martindale, 95, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at First Christian Church with Rev. Curtis Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Pyron Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Martindale died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at her home. She was born on Nov. 25, 1917, in Comanche, Okla. She married Warren Martindale on May 13, 1943, in Sweetwater. Thelma graduated from Pyron High School in 1937 and came to the Sweetwater area in 1942. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was Past President of B.P.O Does, Past President of the Tumbleweed Home Demonstration Club and Past President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Thelma and her husband Warren helped get the Sweetwater Big Country Dance started and served on the board for many years.
Survivors include her grandsons, Monty Baker of Abilene and David Baker of Sweetwater; and several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Annie Kinney; her husband, Warren Martindale on April 17, 2012; her daughter, Linda Sue Martindale Baker on Dec. 3, 1980; brothers, J.D., Pete, Alvin and Bobby Kinney; and a sister, Lillie Mae Lofton.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Bennett, B.D. Kinney, Buddy Kinney and Terry Boley.
Memorials may be made to Ben Richey Boys Ranch, West Texas Rehabilitation Center or First Christian Church in Sweetwater.
