Young Guns are champs at Midland tournament

The Sweetwater Young Guns 11-and-under travel team won the championship at the Midland Winter Blast tournament, a Global Sports World Series Qualifier event which was played on Feb. 16-17 as part of Texas USSSA Baseball. Members of the team are, bottom row from left, Rylen Moncada, Reese Hayes, Rylan Hayes, Darian Carr, Jacob Roden; middle row, Xavier Rodela, Max Ferguson, Austin Moreland, Daiman Atkins, Blake Andrus; back row, coaches Kelly Andrus, Randall Rea and Tony Roden. Sweetwater beat the Odessa Shock 10-7 on the first day of the tournament before losing to the Seminole Indians 8-0 later that day, but then defeated the Andrews A’s 10-5 to begin the final day of the tournament before knocking off Big Spring Pride 7-2 in the championship game of their bracket.
