The Sweetwater Young Guns, a 12-under travel team, won first place at an Abilene tournament that was held recently.
Sweetwater compiled a record of 3-1.
After losing 9-6 in their first pool game to Lubbock’s Rivercats, the team defeated the West Texas Wranglers 9-8 in their final pool game and defeated the West Texas Bombers 7-2 in the semifinals the following day, then beat the Wranglers 8-6 for the championship.
The team also traveled to San Angelo one week earlier, where the Young Guns won the silver bracket championship.
The team has qualified to compete in the 12-under state tournament to be held in Midland starting June 13 and also for a World Series trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area scheduled in July.
Local sponsors are need-ed for these trips to help with funding.
