Today, we should see some rain before 1 p.m., then an 80% chance of freezing rain and sleet. Temperatures will decrease throughout the day, falling to around 29 by 5 p.m. Winds will be breezy and from the north-northeast at 10 to 15 mph, increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could get as high as 30 mph. Total daytime ice/sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Expect freezing rain and sleet tonight before 7 p.m., then snow and sleet likely between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. and then a chance of snow thereafter.

TNB to host Chamber Coffee

Texas National Bank will host the monthly Chamber of Commerce Coffee and belatedly celebrate Texas Independence Day at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, in the bank’s lobby at 400 East Broadway.

School board recognizes Intermediate robotics team

The Sweetwater Intermediate School Robotics Team, the Master Builders, recently advanced to state competition. Members of the team are Brenna Von Atzigen, Amariz Garcia and Addison Torres. Steve Withrow is their robotics coach. Shown, the team was honored at the recent Sweetwater ISD Board of Trustees meeting with a resolution.

Hepatitis B: Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department monthly focus on diseases

“Hepatitis” means inflammation of the liver. Toxins, certain drugs, some diseases, heavy alcohol use, and bacterial and viral infections can all cause hepatitis. Hepatitis is also the name of a family of viral infections that affect the liver; the most common types are Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.

Highland girls' season ends

The Highland girls basketball team’s great season came to an end Saturday, when Garden City rallied for a 37-33 win in their Region II-1A semifinal that was played in Abilene. Pictured is Madison Moseley (12) driving past a Garden City defender.

New food service coming to SISD

March 2, 2015

Sweetwater Independent School District officials have selected Chartwells, an independent food service, to direct the breakfast and lunch programs at all SISD campuses. The company, which is part of Compass Group, a corporate conglomerate, will fully implement its new menu by the beginning of the 2015-16 school year.

For tonight, there will be 20 percent chance of showers, with cloudy conditions and a low around 39. Winds will be from the east at 5 to 10 mph, shifting to the south after midnight.

SISD students honored with resolutions

March 2, 2015

Mya Jackson, a student at Sweetwater Middle School, was honored with a resolution at the recent Sweetwater ISD Board of Trustees meeting for qualifying for the state-level competition in archery.
Sweetwater High School student Alexis Martinez recently earned a seat in the ATSSB All-State Band and was honored with a resolution at the meeting as well.
