Two new ADAs in 32nd Judicial District

Last month, the 32nd Judicial District welcomed two new ADAs (Assistant District Attorneys) to its office, both of whom are familiar faces to the community of Sweetwater.
According to District Attorney Ann Reed, the last time the 32nd Judicial District had two ADAs was in 1997, in which she was one of them. And for the first time in six years--when she was elected as District Attorney, the opportunity to once again have two ADAs presented itself and Reed took full advantage of it.

Roby VFD adds to rescue equipment thanks to grant from Texas A&M Forest Service

Roby Volunteer Fire Department recently received a $15,000 grant for rescue equipment through Texas A&M Forest Service’s Rural VFD Assistance Program.
“Our department was in need of rescue equipment to expand our ability to perform tasks such as extrications safely,” Fire Chief James Terry Said.
The new equipment will serve as an addition to equipment the department. According to Terry, their rescue equipment has been used six times thus far this year.

SHS ends summer program as they prepare students for summer testing

The campus principal, assistant principal and office staff hosted a cookout for summer school students to thank them for their hard work and dedication during the summer school program at Sweetwater High School.

AAA Texas offers tips and Tipsy Tow to prevent DWI on Fourth of July

AAA Texas encourages everyone, who is of legal drinking age and who plans to have alcoholic beverages to celebrate Independence Day, to designate a sober driver, call for a cab or ride sharing service, or plan an overnight stay before having their first drink. Also, as a last resort, AAA Texas will offer a free community service called Tipsy Tow which aims to keep drinking drivers off the road. The service will be available from 6 p.m. on Fri., July 3 through 11:59 p.m. on Sat., July 4, 2015.

Nolan County Jail, Sheriff’s Office host open house

A Masonic cornerstone ceremony and ribbon cutting were held for the Nolan County Jail and Sheriff's Office on Wednesday. Several Nolan County officials gave opening remarks with a ribbon cutting following, sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.

Local Fourth of July activities planned

Nolan County residents will have a wide variety of events to choose from this weekend to celebrate Independence Day.
A fireworks show will return to Sweetwater this year in the form of Lakefest, sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. It will be held at the Lake Sweetwater dam on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 9:30 p.m.

Sweetwater Rotary Club becomes 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club

The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow recognition is The Rotary Foundation's way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named for Rotary Internationals founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905.
