Willard (Joe) Cogdell, Jr. 85, of San Angelo, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at his residence.
Visitation will be held at Johnsons Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Nolan Cemetery with Rev. James Mitchell officiating. A meal for family and friends will be held at the Nolan Community Center immediately after the burial.
Willard was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Abilene to Willard A. Sr. and Lerline (Altizer) Cogdell. Willard was a US Army veteran having served in Germany as a surveyor. He was a retired plumber who worked on many buildings in the San Angelo area including Shannon Medical Center, Ethicon, ASU, WTU and Pave Paws to name a few. He was a charter member of the San Angelo Claybird Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.
Willard was married to LaNell Monroe on Jan. 29, 1955, in Sweetwater. He was an only child so when he and LaNell got married her family became his family.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents and one son Willard Cogdell, III in June 1980.
Survivors include his wife, LaNell Cogdell of San Angelo; two sons, David Cogdell and wife Becky and Russell Cogdell, all of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Bethany Cogdell-Black and husband Derek Black, Holland Cogdell and Will Cogdell; and one great-granddaughter, Taelyn Black, also of San Angelo.
