Plowboys still have title shot following 37-13 win

ROSCOE — With a win at Hamlin this week, Roscoe can be at least co-champion of District 4-2A, Division II.
Roscoe kept that possibility alive on Friday as the Plowboys improved to 3-1 in district (6-3 overall) with a 37-13 win over Tahoka.
Roscoe fell behind Tahoka 7-0 in the second period before going ahead 8-7 just 18 seconds later, when Jose Ortega took the kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and Jayden Gonzales completed a two-point conversion pass to Brandon Lavalais.
Roscoe would never look back, as the Plowboys exploded for 30 points to lead 30-7 at halftime.
Francisco Garcia ran for three second-quarter touchdowns of 22, 14 and 1 yard and added a fourth TD in the second half when he scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth stanza. He added a PAT kick after the last TD and finished with 132 yards on 15 carries. Gonzales, who was 18-of-33 for 163 yards, also had a two-point pass to Lavalais in the second period.
Lavalais caught another two-point pass, this one by Ortega, in the quarter that gave Roscoe a 16-7 lead.
Roscoe, currently tied with Seagraves for second place in 4-2A, Division II behind Hamlin (4-0), got a great all-around effort from Ortega. He also recorded eight solo tackles and one assist on defense while on offense, he had eight catches for 91 yards and also had a 5-yard run. He also punted three times for a 43-yard average and had a 24-yard punt return.
Gonzales also ran for 40 yards and Garcia caught five passes for 55 yards.
Other defensive leaders were Parker Payne with four tackles and three assists; Tristan Brooks with three tackles and three assists; and Nick Limones and Jacob Rainey with three tackles and two assists.
