Sweetwater’s volleyball team, coming off a crucial road win at Snyder this past Friday, found itself in a big hole against Mona-hans almost from the start here Tuesday and fell to the Lady Loboes — the No. 10-ranked team in the state — in three games.
Monahans won 25-8, 25-9, 25-13 in Sweetwa-ter’s most lopsided defeat in district play as the Lady Mustangs dropped to 2-4 in district play following their win over Snyder.
Sweetwater was able to stay with Monahans early in Game 1. However, the Lady Loboes launched a 13-0 run en route to going 5-1 in district play, and 27-7 overall. Sweetwater also trailed by double digits early and often the last two games and only once — late in Game 3 — did the Lady Mustangs have a run of more than two points.
Sweetwater coach Liz Miller said she feared her team might not be at its best Tuesday after its win at Snyder. “It’s hard to get back up after an emotional match like we had on Fri-day,” she said. “We geared up so much for Snyder.
“Part of it is our lack of experience. We’ve got to let this go and get ready for Greenwood (at Green-wood Friday).”
Kensi Chowning (4) was the only player with more than two kills on Tuesday while only three players — Kayla Chowning (5), Maddie Berry (4) and Maddie Jones (4) — had more than three digs. In addition, Jones had a team-high six assists while both of the Chownings and Mikeilah Foust had two blocks in the match.
