SAN ANGELO — Another night, another 5A school for the Class 3A Sweetwater girls basketball team — and one more still to go.
On Monday, the Lady Mustangs traveled to San Angelo Central just three nights after hosting Abilene High and lost, 41-27, drop-ping their record to 1-4. The team is at Abilene Cooper at 6:30 p.m. today before finally getting a break for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sweetwater trailed Cen-tral 10-4 after the first quar-ter, but was still within stri-king distance at halftime as the Lady Cats led 23-14.
Central (3-1) extended its lead to 14, 36-22, after three periods and each team had five points in the fourth and final quarter.
Sweetwater had just three fewer field goals (11-14) than Central, but attempted just 11 free throws to the Lady Cats’ 21 and made just three.
Alicia Finn, who scored 10 points, was the only Sweetwater player in double figures, yet she shared high-point honors with Central’s Kassidy Lanford. Kinsey Browning hit a pair of three-pointers and finished with six points, as did Taylor McKoy. Kendra Crosson had three points and Candice Hernandez two to complete the Lady Mustangs’ scoring.
After today, Sweetwater is idle until Nov. 30, when it will host Clyde. Central won Monday’s JV girls game 49-34, and also prevailed by a score of 45-22 in the freshman contest.
