RANGER — Roscoe did not take a lead in its District 7-1A, Div. II game at Ranger until the third quarter on Friday, but still came away with a badly-needed win as the Plowboys prevailed by a 46-36 count.
Roscoe (3-4 overall) im-proved its district record to 2-2 and got several outstanding offensive perfor-mances. Cutter Davila, the team’s quarterback, threw for 287 yards and five TDs on 14-of-25 passing.
His favorite target, once again, was Shelton Toliver, who caught six passes for 104 yards with four scores.
Max Nemir also caught a TD pass from Davila and led the team in rushing (101 yards, 15 carries). Davila had 63 yards on 16 rushes with one score.
Rafael Aguayo caught four passes for 131 yards and also ran six times for 36 yards; and Kevin Lavalais had an 8-yard scoring run on his only carry as well as catching a 27-yard pass.
Ranger (1-6, 0-4) built an early 16-0 lead before the Plowboys closed the lead to four, 16-12, at the end of the first quarter.
Ranger extended its lead back to 12, 30-18, and still led 30-24 at halftime until Roscoe tied it on Lavalais’ TD run and took the lead on a successful two-point conversion in the third quarter. Roscoe then extended its lead to 46-30 when Davila completed a pair of touchdown passes to Toliver lat-er in the period, and held on for the victory.
Roscoe returns home to face Gorman (1-3, 1-6) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
