Sweetwater’s sub-varsity high school football teams lost to Monahans squads here on Thursday.
It wa the last home game for both teams, who will be traveling to Wylie this week to end their seasons.
Sweetwater’s JV (6-3, 2-2 district) was on the wrong end of a high-scoring 65-34 contest.
The Mustangs scored in every quarter, with help from four touchdown pas-ses by quarterback Max Gomez. Gomez threw a pair of scoring aerials to both Michael Green (35 and 41 yards in the second quarter) and DeShaun Williams (56 yards in the third quarter and 27 yards in the fourth quarter). Adrian Vizzerra got Sweetwater’s scoring started with a 65-yard run in the opening period.
Denzell Moore also ran the ball well, and C.J. Ada-mes and Dylan Jimenez were the top blockers for the offensive line. Green also had a fumble recovery and Sweetwater’s defense fought hard, but couldn’t contain a strong running game by Monahans.
The freshmen lost 42-6 as they fell to 0-4 and 3-5.
Jordan McGee scored the only touchdown on a 10-yard run in the second quarter. Other offensive standouts were Dylan Aus-born, Javier Olguin, Gar-rett Davison, Luis Vasquez, Keevin Houston, Junior Lawhon, Dylan Heiskell and Tristen Vasquez. Vasquez, Frank Ortega, Gabriel Lei-ja, John Clift, Robert King, Nathan Browning and Aus-born were defensive stand-outs for Sweetwater.
