Sweetwater’s boys basket-ball team is now 2-0 for the season after winning 43-37 at Stanton on Monday.
Sweetwater fell behind 15-13 after one quarter, but outscored its hosts 11-4 in the second period to go up 24-19 at halftime and led 35-30 after three quarters.
Dylan Bennett scored 13 points to lead Sweetwater. Kaleb Hoover scored nine, J.P. Poe and Rhett Torres six, Marquees Jenkins four, De’andre Gatson three and Jacob Peyton two.
Sweetwater’s JV boys also improved to 2-0 for the sea-son after winning 42-28 over Stanton’s JV. Hardy Escobar (14) and Jordan Jones (13) paced the win. Michael Lawrence (seven), Mathew Trevino (five) and Gage Hannah (three) also scored for the Mustangs.
Sweetwater resumes play when it entertains Merkel next Tuesday in its home opener. All three teams were scheduled to host Wall on Tuesday, but only the freshman game was held.
