If the expected icy weather doesn’t interfere, all eight Nolan County high school varsity basketball teams — plus a handful of sub-varsity and junior high squads — will play in tournaments that are scheduled to begin today around the area.
The Sweetwater girls were scheduled to play twice today at Stanton’s tourney that ends Saturday, while the boys’ first tournament pool game at Stanton will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The top three teams in each pool will advance to championship play on Sat-urday.
The Highland girls and boys host their Hilltop Clas-sic which also runs through Saturday, and also includes both Roscoe varsity teams.
The Highland girls and boys were scheduled — in the event that the weather doesn’t cause changes — to play Munday at 5:30 and 7 p.m. today. Roscoe’s teams, meanwhile, were scheduled to play Hamlin at the same times. The tournament was also scheduled to have four games earlier today, plus eight games on Friday and six games on Saturday when the event wraps up.
Blackwell was also sched-uled to play its Oak Creek Classic starting today and going through Saturday at the school’s gyms.
Blackwell’s girls were to play their first game today at 6 p.m. against Panther Creek. Blackwell will field a pair of boys teams, and the JV was to play Jayton’s varsity at 1:30 p.m. today with the varsity boys facing Panther Creek in the night-cap at 7:30 p.m.
