Roscoe and Highland set the stage for a first-place showdown in Highland on Tuesday as both teams won their games on Friday. But Roscoe (3-0, 11-9) was the only one to play a district game as the Plowgirls beat Ira 45-39. Highland (17-2) is also 3-0 in District 13-A, Division II, but its victory over Loraine — which has forfeited its varsity games — came by default.
Highland, however, did get in a game against the home school Abilene Hawks, and the Lady Hornets won it 66-13. Sierra Allen led Highland with 16 points while Sydny Helbert had 14 and Beth Richburg 10. Indi-vidual scoring for Roscoe’s game was unavailable at press time.
In boys action, Highland (8-5) won its District 13-A, Division II opener, 58-21, over Loraine but Roscoe (1-12) lost to Ira 62-29 in its district opener.
The Highland boys got off to a great start, leading Loraine 22-2 after one period en route to the win. Ethan Wilson paced the Hornets with 20 points while Brandon Stevens had 11 and Kevin Box 10.
Javier Leanos led Roscoe with 13 points, while Jesus Leanos had six points for the Plowboys.
In District 14-A, Division II, Blackwell lost 87-42 to Water Valley as the Hornets (9-4) dropped to 3-2 in district play. Matthew Lowry led Blackwell with 16 points. Jayden Jones had nine vs. Water Valley (5-0).
