Sweetwater High School won three of its four games in sub-varsity basketball action here this past Friday vs. Midland Greenwood.
The JV boys (2-3 in dist-rict) won 47-46; the freshman boys (1-4) lost 41-38. The JV girls (2-5) won 35-21; and the freshman girls (4-3) won 28-10.
Hardy Escobar and Mich-ael Lawrence led the JV boys with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Denzell Moore had 10, Deshaun Williams three and Matthew Trevino and Mark Lawrence two. Sweetwater led 32-20 at halftime vs. Greenwood and survived a scoreless third quarter for the win despite hitting just one field goal in the second half, thanks to its free throw shooting.
The freshman boys lost despite 10 points from Jordan McGee, seven by Hunter Mobley, six by Jacoby Hunt, five by Michael Green, four by Keevin Houston and two each by Tate Rainey, Javier Olguin and Lowell Williams.
Kensi Chowning had 14 points and Abby Garcia 10 for the JV girls, while Gabby Fuentes had five points, Jasmine Reddic four and Payton Moore two.
In the freshman girls’ win, Lauren Jones had 12 points while Davina Walker scored eight, Kaitlyn Foster six and Danielle Vega two.
