Jana Hall filed her candidacy for the Sweetwater Independent School District school board on Wednesday. She is seeking election for the remaining term for District 5 on the board, which is vacant following the resignation of Jenny Cherry last year.
When asked about her reasons for seeking the position, Mrs. Hall said, “I have three children in Sweetwater schools, and soon will have four. Obviously, I care about the quality of our kids’ education. David and I are proud of our identity as Sweetwater graduates, and I want to make sure that the current generation of students can be just as proud of that identity as we are.”
Mrs. Hall is a graduate of Sweetwater High School and Baylor University. Before returning to Sweetwater in 2003, she worked for 10 years hiring personnel for Fidelity Investments and The American Funds Group. She is married to Judge David Hall and the couple has four children.
Mrs. Hall also said that she would bring a unique perspective to the school board. “I have volunteered a lot of time in the elementary schools over the last few years through the PTO. I have personally observed the environment in our schools, both the things that we are doing well and the things that need improvement. I want to serve our community, and our community’s identity is very closely tied to our schools. I believe that I would provide an independent viewpoint to this board.”
Jana’s father, David Welch is a retired superintendent of Sweetwater schools. Her mother and mother-in-law are teachers. “My family is full of educators. I believe in public education and our teachers.”
The school board election is on May 10, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Sweetwater Middle School. Early voting is from April 28, to May 6, 2014, in the SISD Administration Office at 207 Musgrove Street in Sweetwater.
