All the kids are grown and gone except for their youngest daughter Hanna, who is a freshman at Highland High School. The Baumann’s have enjoyed moving back to west Texas and spend a lot of time during the summer months working in their garden.
Diabetes education has never been more important. Mrs. Baumann will provide diabetes education to help our community understand what diabetes means, what the risk factors are, other diseases that are caused by diabetes and appropriate diabetes self care management.
According to the American Diabetes Association, there are over 25 million Americans who are diagnosed with diabetes, 7 million additional people who are unaware they have the disease and another 79 million people at risk for diabetes. We should not forget that childhood obesity is on the rise in this country, which can lead to diabetes.
Taking part in a diabetes education program may help prevent your from becoming another statistic. The Outreach Diabetic Program schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. A new schedule for upcoming educational events and support group meetings are being organized and planned, including a support group meeting from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the ER classroom at the hospital. Brenda Hollis, dietary manager, will be at the meeting to discuss meal planning and a program will be presented on pre-diabetes and Type II diabetes. The event will also be a meet and greet for Baumann.
"RPMH is looking forward to enhancing this service for our community."
