At Tuesday's City Commission meeting, approval was given to an ordinance ordering the city election to be held on Saturday, May 10.
The purpose of the election, which is the date set for the state elections, is to vote for two city commissioners in Precincts 2 and 4. The seats are currently filled by Jim McKenzie and Jerod Peek, respectively.
At the meeting, all commissioners were given an election calendar in their packets, which outlines several dates and timelines that are part of the election process.
Several reappointments were also approved during the meeting. John Spaulding and Melonnie Hicks will serve as city appointees to the Auditorium Board, with Mila Gibson to serve as the joint city-county appointee.
All three board members' terms will expire on February 29, 2016. City Manager Eddie Brown urged the commissioners to check out the improvements made to the auditorium and praised the board for their active work.
For the city-county Airport Zoning Board, Bill Haley was reappointed as the city appointee, while Ms. Jay Neal will continue to serve as the joint city-county appointee. Their terms will also expire on February 29, 2016.
Furthermore, the commission approved the five year extension of the Lake Sweetwater golf course lease agreement with George DiJulio, which was requested by the lessee and will expire on April 1, 2019.
