Robert “Bobby” Alcala Gonzales, Jr., 59, of Sweetwater, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2014 in Lubbock.
Robert was born on June 27, 1954, in Sweetwater to Robert Martinez Gonzales and Alice Alcala Gonzales. He has one brother, George Alcala Gonzales and one sister, Eva Alcala Gonzales. Robert attended Sweetwater ISD as a youth. He worked from a young age in the oil fields of west Texas, as a roofer, but Bobby was most known for his cement work, laying countless yards of cement with his father, brother and friends. He spent his lifetime as a Sweetwater resident. He enjoyed fishing. He loved his 12 grandchildren dearly, referring to the boys as his “little buddies” and the girls as his “princesses.”
Robert is survived by his father, Robert M. Gonzales; one sister, Eva A. Gonzales; one brother, George A. Gonzales and wife Wanda; three sons, Alex Gonzales and wife Jo Ann, Brian Gonzales, Derek Gonzales and wife Amanda, all of Sweetwater; one daughter, Renee Townsend and husband Gary of Abilene; 12 grandchildren, Diego, Mia and Timothy Gonzales, Andrew and Santana Gonzales, Sebastian, Jacob, Karli and Marcus Gonzales, Isaiah and Anthony Gongora, Gabriella Townsend and three great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Alice A. Gonzales.
Bobby will greatly be missed by his family and friends.
Robert was cremated at Carnes Funeral Home, Houston. A memorial service for Robert Alcala Gonzales, Jr. will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 507 Crane in Sweetwater at 10 a.m. with Deacon Bill Butler officiating. Burial of Robert’s remains will be at the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. The family will receive family and friends at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, Alabama Avenue after the burial
