SAN ANGELO — Sweet-water High School’s softball team rallied twice from four-run deficits and once from three runs down Tuesday to tie San Angelo Lake View, only to see the hosts score in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 12-11 victory.
Sweetwater (6-3) never led, but kept the pressure on with a three-run third inning to tie it 3-3, a four-run fifth to tie it at 7-7 and finally a four-run seventh to tie it once again, 11-11.
“I’m very proud of the way we fought back into the game,” Lady Mustang coach Tony Heredia said of his team’s effort.
Heredia said Sweetwater had the go-ahead run on second base when its final rally ended in the seventh. “We gave ourselves a chance to win,” he said, “and came up just a bit short.”
Abby Garcia had two dou-bles, a single and four RBI and Megan Holsey also fin-ished with three hits, inclu-ding a triple. Morgan Gom-ez had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Cierra Knox also had two hits.
Katherine Montoya and Naomi Gonzales also hit safely for the Lady Mustangs and Maddie Berry pitched.
