All four Sweetwater High School sub-varsity teams won their games at Merkel on Tuesday.
Sweetwater’s JV girls are now 10-0 this season after a 40-32 victory.
The teams were locked in a 20-20 tie at halftime, but Sweetwater limited Merkel to 12 points in the second half. Janell Walker scored 14 points to pace Sweetwater while Shelby Cason and Elise Lawrence scored eight points, Kelsi Crosson seven and Ashley Kincheloe three.
Sweetwater’s freshman girls are also having an excellent season.
The Lady Mustangs are off to an 8-2 start after a 34-7 victory at Merkel. Micaela Reschman had 11 points, Larissa Locklar seven, Sydney Vanderbilt four, Karlee Murff three, Kayla Chowning, Taylor McPherson and Taylor Ramsey two and Shaneese Brown one.
Ryan Linebaugh poured in 17 points to pace Sweet-water’s JV boys (5-3) to a 44-40 win. Nate Hardin had nine, Kyle McSherry eight, Cole Maxwell four and Willie Norman, Dylan Torres and Matt Kitchens two. The Mustangs saved their best for last against Merkel, overcoming a one-point deficit (29-28) after three periods.
Led by Kaleb Hoover’s 23 points, the Sweetwater freshman boys won their game 44-26.
Marquees Jenkins had seven points, Dylan Ben-nett six, Deandre Gatson and Quentin Wetsel three and Tre Taylor two against Merkel as Sweetwater im-proved to 6-1 overall. It was the team’s first game since winning the consola-tion title on Saturday at the Jayton tournament.
Sweetwater held leads of 11-8, 22-16 and 36-21 at the quarter breaks.
