The Sweetwater boys golf team shot 345-340-685 this past week for a 12th place finish at Andrews’ two-day tournament. A total of 23 teams competed.
It was the first time that Sweetwater had beem able to field a complete boys team for both rounds of a tournament. Mason Andrews was 12th out of 117 medalists in the field after firing rounds of 77 and 80 for a 157 total. Michael Hazard shot 85-79-164; Michael Hunt, coming off an eighth-place finish at the Region 1-3A preview in Lubbock, shot 83-88-171; and Jeremy Witt shot 100-93-193. Mark Lawrence shot a 104 on Saturday.
Host Andrews had the top four individual medalists and shot 292-293 for a tournament record 585 — two shots better than the old record — to win the team title by 38 strokes.
JV girls place 2nd
Sweetwater’s JV girls golf team shot 397 to place second at a tournament held Tuesday in Abilene. Alyssa Soles (95), Mallory Carney (100), Lizzie Gray (100), Christa Martin (102) and Brooke Hefner (107) were on the team. Also, Corynnn Martin shot 85 to finish as second-place medalist and Serena Flores shot 138.
