De’andre Gatson tripled jump 43 feet, 5 3/4 inches and was the only first-place medalist for Sweetwater at its Rattlesnake Relays track meet this past Friday.
The Sweetwater boys had 39 points in their division and also got a second-place finish from their 400-meter relay (43.85). For the Sweetwater girls, who had 30 points, Abby Garcia fin-ished second in the high jump (4-9) to garner the best individual finish at last week’s meet.
Also for the boys, Isaiah McGee was fourth in the long jump (20-4 1/2) and the 800 relay placed fourth (1:37.02). Gatson and John-athan Browning tied for fifth in the 100 dash (11.44) and Browning was fifth in the high jump (5-10), while Kaleb Hoover was sixth in the high jump (5-8). For the girls, Davina Walker placed fourth in the 100 (13.37) and long jump (15-1 1/2); Garcia was fifth in the 200 (28.10); Zanisha Williams was fifth in the 100 (13.38); Mickenzie Brownlow was sixth in the 400 (1:07.79); Cierra Knox was sixth in the discus (92-4); and the 800 relay (1:54.40) and the 400 relay (53.52) both placed fifth. Abilene High had 146 points to win the boys division over Lubbock High (109), Abilene Cooper (104) and Vernon (92). Abilene High won the girls division with 108 points while Cooper was second with 105, Big Spring third with 101 and Vernon fourth with 92.
