Funeral services for Melma Lee Johnson, 69, of Sweetwater will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Pastor T.J. Jackson will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A wake will be from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 at McCoy Chapel.
Johnson died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
She was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Amarillo.
Melma moved to Sweetwater four years ago from Brownfield and she was a member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Sweetwater. She had worked for the Midland Independent School District as a custodian and at a nursing home in Brownfield as an aide.
Survivors include her son, Roy Johnson of Lubbock; mother, Birdie Lee Wright of Sweetwater; sister, Linda Sweet and husband Reverend Robert Sweet of Sweetwater; brother, Clarence Wright of Sweetwater; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; her aunt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Baker; brothers, Charlie Wright, Jr., Thomas Earl Wright, Albert Lee Wright; and sister, Wanda Lemmons.
Pallbearers will be Tony Atkins, Anthony Castro, Danny Williams, Quincy Garrett, Keith Hellums and Michael Richardson.
