GREENWOOD — The Sweetwater High School softball team fell to 0-2 in district after a 13-3, six-inning defeat at Greenwood on Tuesday.
Sweetwater scored twice in the top of the third in-ning to tie it at 2-2, but Greenwood got two in the bottom of the third to regain the lead and never looked back. The Rangerettes (1-1) blew it open with a six-run sixth inning to win the con-test by the 10-run rule.
Naomi Gonzales had two of Sweetwater’s eight hits, including a double, while Cierra Knox and Maddie Berry each drove in a run for the Lady Mustangs (9-8 overall). Berry, who was the starting pitcher, went 4 1/3 innings until Annaliese Espinoza and Savanna Hall finished up. Kat Montoya and Abby Garcia scored for Sweetwater and Montoya, Garcia, Knox, Berry, Lau-ren Jones and Rebecca Gonzales also had hits for the Lady Mustangs, who had lost to Snyder 6-0 in their season opener after being held without a hit by Snyder pitcher Adrianna Hernandez.
Sweetwater will try again when it hosts Big Spring at 5 p.m. Friday. It will be the team’s home opener.
