After losing to Wylie last Friday, Sweetwater’s baseball and softball teams are home again to face Snyder today with both hoping to reverse their recent District 4-3A fortunes. The baseball team is 2-2 but has lost two straight; the softball team is off to an 0-5 district start.
They are hosting Snyder teams which have a collec-tive 8-1 record (5-0 softball, 3-1 in baseball). Sweetwa-ter, however, trails Snyder by just a game in baseball and can pull into a second-place tie with a win. Sweet-water (15-5 overall) had won 12 straight before losing to Monahans (3-7) and Wylie (3-4) this past week.
In softball, Sweetwater played first-place Snyder tough when the teams met March 14, trailing just 1-0 until the Lady Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game. The Lady Mustangs — who are 9-11 overall — trail Big Spring and Monahans, who are tied for fourth place, by two full games with just five to play.
In baseball, Snyder and Sweetwater are trying to keep pace with district lea-der Wylie (4-0). Sweetwa-ter is tied for third with Big Spring, a game ahead of 1-3 Monahans.
