Sweetwater, Highland, Roscoe and Blackwell will all have recently-graduated athletes participating in games that are all part of the Big Country Chevy Dealers-Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Festival this week.
They are among the 250 athletes and cheerleaders at the event that was expanded to include baseball and softball starting this year and is being held in three cities.
Four of the 12 area athletes who were chosen to participate will be playing in all-star basketball games on Thursday in Brownwood.
Highland’s Sierra Allen will play for the North team in the girls basketball game that tips off at 6 p.m. that day at the Brownwood Coli-seum, while Jesus Leanos of Roscoe and two Blackwell athletes — Matthew Lowry and Mason Magness — will all play for the North team in the boys basketball game that tips off at 8 p.m. at the same location.
Sweetwater’s James Clift and Stephen May have been selected for the North team in the baseball game that will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday at San Angelo’s Fos-ter Field. May will replace Greg Aiken, who was origin-ally chosen but will be playing at an all-star game in Round Rock this weekend.
Sweetwater’s Kaleb Hoo-ver and Roscoe’s Shelton Toliver are teammates Sat-urday on the North squad at the 15th annual Myrle Greathouse football game that will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Abilene’s Shot-well Stadium.
Also, Micaela Reschman of Sweetwater is a member of the North team that day for the volleyball game that will tip off at noon at Wylie High School’s gym.
Three Sweetwater cheer-leaders — Megan Carney, Caroline Lawrence and Kay-la Chowning — will cheer at both Saturday games.
Roscoe, meanwhile, will be holding a Summer Shoot-out basketball tournament starting at 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday at both Roscoe gyms. In addition to Ros-coe, teams from Highland are entered along with sev-eral other area communities including Colorado City, Roby, Merkel, Aspermont, Ira, Rotan, Bronte, Sands, Hawley and Stanton.
Clift, May and Dylan Bennett participated for Sweetwater in a Greater West Texas Baseball Coa-ches Association all-star game June 1 at Frenship High School as members of the Class 3A East team. The game was one of three all-star contests that were held at Frenship that day.
