The Highland girls and Roscoe boys collected key district basketball wins on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets are now 7-2 in District 11-A, Division II after crushing Ira, 62-27. Callie Sandus-ky’s 24-point effort paced Highland, which was ahead 13-1, 31-5 and 47-15 at the breaks.
Kara Hughey added 11 points for Highland, who maintained its half-game lead over Loraine for second place. The teams meet at Highland Friday. Sierra Allen had eight points, Beth Richburg and Shyan Womack six, Jessica McCain four and Lora Stewart three.
In District 9-A, Division I, Roscoe’s boys outlasted Munday 54-46 to break a third-place tie. Caden Smith’s 20 points led the Plowboys, who improved to 3-2 in district while Munday is 2-3.
The teams were tied 14-14 until Roscoe built its winning margin with a 13-4 second quarter that staked the Plowboys to a 27-18 halftime advantage. Devan Cole and Cody Graham each contributed 13 points to the winning cause while Keeston Ford had three, Edgar Gallegos and Jesus Leanos two and Juan Solis one.
The Highland boys (2-5) lost to Ira 85-23, leaving them a game out of third place with three teams just ahead of them. Josh Andrews had nine points, Landon Rowlett seven, Kaden Nachlinger three and Ron Covington and Sheldon Hall two.
Meanwhile, the Roscoe girls (1-5) lost to Munday 46-38. Lynnsi Moses had 13 points, Katie McIntire and Lindsey Williams seven, Jacinda Morales five, Kaitlinn Reed four and Carolina Perez two.
