The Highland girls bas-ketball team basically as-sured itself of a trip to the playoffs for the 10th consecutive year after defeating Loraine, 57-45, on Friday at the Highland gym.
Sierra Allen had 18 points and Kara Hughey 17 to pace the Lady Hornets, who im-proved to 8-2 in District 11-A, Division II.
The Highland boys lost to Loraine, 38-26, damaging their chances of reaching the play. Highland dropped to 2-6 in district play, while Loraine is now 4-4.
Highland’s girls basically clinched no worse than the No. 2 playoff berth in District 11, Division II, as Loraine (6-3) and Ira (6-4), their nearest competitors, lost both games to Highland. Beth Richburg and Callie Sandusky had eight points and Jessica McCain and Shyan Womack scored three points for the Lady Hornets in Friday’s contest.
The Highland boys got 10 points by Landon Rowlett, nine by Josh Andrews and seven by Ron Covington.
In District 9-A, Division I, Roscoe’s boys lost at Has-kell 51-32 but are still in third place at 3-3, while Haskell is second (5-1).Ros-coe was led by Caden Smith with 13 points. Devan Cole had seven, Juan Solis five, Keeston Ford four and Cody Graham three.
The Roscoe girls also lost, 42-26, falling to 1-6 in dis-trict play. Lynnsi Moses and Carolina Perez led Roscoe with seven points. Lindsey Williams had six, Katie McIntire three, Faith Boren two and Mirian Solis one.
