This past Sunday marked the first fundraiser of the year for West Texas Heat. The traveling girls softball team is based out of Sweetwater and is made up of 13 girls from Sweetwater, Snyder, Roby, Colorado City, Hawley and Stanford. This year will be their first year competing in the 14 and under age group. Last year the girls’ record was 83-8 and two ties. They brought home first place in their biggest tournament called Goliath held in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where teams from six different states competed. The team hopes to participate again this summer.
The fundraiser was held at Skeet’s Texas grill where the team sold chicken taco plates with beans, rice, a drink and a dessert for $6. The money is to be used to cover this season’s tournament entry fees and to purchase equipment for the team. Head coach Terry Clemmer and Assistant Coach Danny Carrion would like to thank everyone who came out to support the team. The next fundraiser will be held at the Rattlesnake Round-up. For those who are interested in participating or contributing at the next fundraiser, contact Terry Clemmer.
