Sweetwater’s historic Municipal Auditorium will host a live Broadway musical on Saturday evening, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. when “Godspell” takes the stage. “Godspell” is a production of Abilene High School’s drama department and choir, and is directed by Clay Freeman. Freeman was Sweetwater High School’s drama director in the 1970s and took Sweetwater students to second place in state theater competition in 1973. This is the only tour stop for the Abilene High School show, brought to Sweetwater because of Freeman’s long-time connections to Sweetwater. Freeman produced “Godspell” at the Municipal Auditorium in 1983 and also produced numerous summer theater events with local students in the 1970s as some of the earliest efforts to revitalize the Municipal Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets are available at the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and at the door. Active duty and recently deployed military and their families will be admitted for free.
