Members of the Nolan County Foundation are announcing their annual NCF Golf Scramble for Scholarships set for Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Sweetwater Country Club.
According to Jerry Riggs, President of the NCF, this year's event is being dedicated to the memory of Jere Lawrence, one of the NCF founders. Riggs stated that Jere Lawrence worked tirelessly for many local and area causes, but the NCF was one of great importance to all of Nolan County.
Riggs continued that this is the eighth annual fundraiser established to benefit all qualified Nolan county high school graduates to attend any Texas college or university. To date, the NCF has awarded 101 scholarships in the amount of $1000 each.
This spring counselors at Blackwell, Highland, Roscoe and Sweetwater High Schools will distribute a uniform application to any senior graduating in the spring of 2011 who plans to attend any Texas college or university in the fall of 2011.
The four person scramble is to be played in the traditional A-B-C-D format that will be coordinated by Don Timm, local country club pro.
Members of the NCF will be contacting businesses and individuals regarding sponsorship and registration for the April 16 event. With the already excellent Nolan County support previously demonstrated, members are expecting another record golf scramble.
Members of the NCF include Jerry Riggs, Glenn Bennett, Rod Wetsel, Ronnie Cox, J.V. Martin, Ronald G. Williams, Bill Johnson, Homer Taylor, Tom Rees, Jr., John Jay, Carolyn Lawrence and Jan Smith. Jacque McCoy, Chamber of Commerce Executive, serves in an advisory position.
