Funeral services for Clayton Brown, 77, of Roscoe, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Roscoe with Rev. Adam Davis and Ervin Lehrman officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Brown died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at his home.
He was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Corsicana, Texas. He married Darlene Elliott in 1955. Clayton was an oil field contract pumper for 49 years and was in ranching and farming. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Roscoe and a member of the Sweetwater Men’s Downtown Bible Class. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. Clayton loved attending his grandchildren’s activities. He had lived in Roscoe since age 9.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Brown of Roscoe; son, Mike Brown and wife Sherrie of Sweetwater; daughters, Candace Mercer and husband Steve of Sweetwater and Michelle Gray and husband Rusty of Shallowater; grandchildren, Kristen Brown, Shane Mercer, Ryan Mercer, Brittany Mercer, Collin Gray and Braylie Gray; brother, Marshall Brown and wife Peggy of Fort Worth; sisters, Dorothy Woodruff of Duncanville and Betty Hyde and husband Billy of Winnsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Clara Brown; and his sister, Ruth Harris.
Pallbearers will be Shane Mercer, Ryan Mercer, Don Adkins, Herbert Hoover, Willard McFaul, Garland Haygood, Arlon Orman and Billy Joe McIntire.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sweetwater Men’s Downtown Bible Class.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of God stands forever.
