Although one of them is still alive in the chase for the No. 3 playoff spot in District 5-3A, the Sweet-water High School base-ball and softball teams will both go to Snyder today as underdogs.
The Lady Mustang soft-ball team (2-5) must not only defeat Snyder (4-3) at 5 p.m., but also hope Wylie upsets first-place Brownwood (7-0) in order to have a chance to ex-tend its season. Snyder and Brownwood have clinched playoff spots and Big Spring (3-5) will be the No. 3 team if Sweet-water and Wylie both lose or if Sweetwater wins but Wylie loses. Wins by both Wylie and Sweetwater, however, would create a three-way tie and force a mini-playoff to determine the final playoff berth.
The SHS baseball team hopes to also play spoiler when the Mustangs (1-5 in district) take on Snyder (4-2) at 7 p.m. Snyder is assured of a playoff spot as either the No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 team but currently trails Wylie (5-2) by a half-game and is two games behind Brownwood, the leader at 6-0. Brownwood goes to Wylie today and visits Snyder on Friday. Brownwood beat Sweet-water 13-6 last Friday. Tanner Crain drove in two runs for the Mustangs.
