Born April 12, 1923 in Delight Arkansas, Verna Lee Reed lived a life in honor to God. At 1:51 p.m., April 19, 2011, Jesus fulfilled his promise and returned to earth to escort Verna home completing her life goal of returning to heaven. After 88 years seven days, Verna is now joining her husband James, parents, brothers Willie and Dewey “Jack” Nelms, and other family and friends in her new home.
Carrie Elizabeth Lucy and William Henry Nelms married, lived in Arkansas and had six children Estil, William, Verna, Violet “Tuney”, Jane, and Dewey “Jack”. With deep love for her brothers and sisters, Verna is thought of as a sister, friend and mothering to her siblings. Verna Lee Nelms married James E. Reed of Pyron, Texas May 24, 1941, in Pike County Arkansas. After naval service in WWII, James and Verna returned to Texas to raise their family. As a farm and ranching family, James and Verna humbly set the example for their family that hard work, love for the Lord and kindness to all of God’s creatures are the foundation for a good life.
Honored to call her Mother are her five children, Stanley Reed of Mineral Wells Texas, Lillian Kowalsky of Grand Prairie Texas, Anne and Buddy Green of Whiney Texas, Carroll and Mari Reed of Sweetwater Texas and Johnna Reed and Tammy Gillespie of Simpsonville South Carolina. Verna will continue to love and watch over her children, 11 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. Known for her love of God, magnetic smile and humble sense of humor, Verna’s ability to love all people remained true throughout her challenges with Dementia.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, 2011 from 5:30-7 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, Texas. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with internment at the Pyron Cemetery near Hermleigh, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Verna and her family have been blessed with many angels that will forever remain special.
