HAMLIN — Roscoe’s four regional track qualifiers in early May will include a pair of athletes who will compete in mul-tiple events after earning top-four finishes at the recent area track meet.
Caden Smith will com-pete in the Class 1A boys discus and shot put as well as in the 110 hurdles, while Jacinda Morales is going to regionals in the girls 800 and 1600.
Smith, a senior and two-time state qualifier in the discus and shot put, easily won both events with throws of 153-4 and 54-7 3/4, respectively, and was second in the 110 hurdles (16.02). The other Roscoe boys qualifiers were Juan Solis, who placed third in the shot put (43-4); and Austin Carrasco, who was third in the 300 hurdles (43.88).
Meanwhile, Morales, a junior, punched her ticket to regionals with a third-place finish in the 1600 (6:02.93) and a fourth-place finish in the 800 (2:30.28). She qualified for the state meet in the latter event a year ago.
Jesus Leanos was fifth in the boys 3200 and took sixth in the 1600 while for the girls, Amber Craig was fifth in the same events.
Smith was a winner in all three of his regional qualifying events at the district meet held the previous week, while Morales took second place in the 800 and the 1600.
Roscoe’s other individual boys advancing from district to area were Leanos, second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600; Carrasco, fourth in the 300 hurdles; and Solis, third in the shot. Other girls advancing were Carolina Perez, fourth in the discus; Craig, who was second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600; Allura Renteria, fourth in the 3200; and the runners on the 400 relay, which also placed fourth. The 1600 and 800 relays just missed as both were fifth in their events.
