On Thursday, April 28, 2010, the Sweetwater Fire Department and the Sweetwater Police Department will be "fighting" it out for a good cause. They will be having the third Guns and Hoses Basketball Game, benefiting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center. The game will be at the Sweetwater High School Gym at 7 p.m. and the teams will compete to see who wins this year's game. Last year's winners were the police officers and the first year's winners were the firemen. According to Sweetwater Police Officer Lance Richburg, they are hoping that many will come out to support the cause once again.
The purpose of the game is to raise money for the Advocacy Center. Admission will be a $5 donation per person, but other donations are much appreciated.
The Sweetwater Firefighters Association and Sweetwater Police Patrol Association will also have a concession stand open during the game.
"We have referees, clock runners, the whole works. It will be a full court game with eight minute quarters," Officer Lance Richburg said. Richard Ferguson of KXOX Radio will be the announcer for the game. A dance team from Sweetwater Performing Arts Studio will perform during half-time.
"The Advocacy Center is a Godsend to the community. The more that we can do to help them out, the better they are able to help us out," Richburg said.
The entire community is invited to come out and support this cause. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
