On Saturday, June 11th, John S. Young of Sweetwater, Texas, will be installed as chairman of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Education Institute. He previously has served as vice chair. The Institute promotes and supports the administration of justice in Texas, particularly through the continuing legal education of criminal defense lawyers and staff. TCDLEI also provides scholarships to continuing legal education seminars for deserving attorneys actively engaged in the defense of criminal cases.
A 1983 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and 1988 graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law, John is an active criminal defense lawyer with offices in Sweetwater, Abilene and San Angelo. John has also served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and on the Criminal Defense Lawyers Project. Certified in the 7th Judicial Administrative Region to be appointed as lead counsel in Capital Murder cases in which the death penalty is sought, John is a frequent speaker at TCDLA seminars and has presented papers on various topics, including legal ethics, avoiding grievances, evidentiary rules, final arguments and trial preparation.
