Hot temperatures aren't stopping Nolan County United Way from driving for a good cause.
The summer golf tournament Drive for United Way has been set for Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Sweetwater Country Club. There will be an 8 a.m. scramble with a shotgun start.
“The funds raised from the tournament will once again go towards supporting our 10 local agencies,” Wendy Smartt, NCUW executive director, said.
Teams placing in the top four will have their choice of a pro-shop package. There will prizes on all par 3 holes for a hole in one. First Financial Bank and First Financial Trust is sponsoring Hole 2 as a 50/50 $10,000 prize and is set at 169 yards for men and 154 yards for women. Hole 17 offers a golf vacation for two to a Fairmont Resort. Hole 14 offers a Calloway Razr Hawk Driver and set of woods 3 and 5 and hole 7 is an Escort ultimate driver protection package plus sweepstakes. There will also be prizes for closest to the pins and longest drive on designated holes.
“All players will be served a light breakfast, boxed lunch and drinks throughout the morning,” Smartt said.
Registration is $280 a team with mulligans or $240 without. For single players registration is $70 or $60 without mulligans.
This year the United Way agencies are American Red Cross, Back Pack's for Kids, Boy Scouts, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts, SNAP, West Texas Children's Advocacy Center, Women's Resource Center and Big Country Medical Reserve Corp.
