The SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees met for a special-called meeting on Tuesday evening, Aug. 30, 2011 at the Administration Building.
The brief meeting took place to offer a public hearing regarding the 2011-2012 budget, though no one was in attendance to offer input.
SISD Business Manager Nathan Elhert gave a short overview of the budget and tax rate in that while one particular fund was lost for the new year, SISD will gain around $80,000 of state aid. The board thanked Mr. Elhert for his diligent work, and the budget for the new year was adopted and approved.
The tax rate for 2011-2012 was also approved, which remained the same as last year's rate at $1.06 (maintenance tax) and .165 (school debt service tax) per $100 valuation. Also approved regarding budgets was the budget amendment for the 2010-2011 budget, which ensures the district and is done as a bookkeeping procedure.
SISD Superintendent Terry Pittman offered a quick enrollment report for the new school year before the meeting concluded. The district is down 37 students from this time last year, though some class sizes are faring well and are even smaller. Enrollment will continue to be examined with the hope that as the days progress, the district will break even as numbers climb.
