Fern “GG” Roberts, age 87, of Eastland, passed away Friday Sept. 2, 2011, at her home. Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Daugherty St. Church of Christ in Eastland with Grandsons Steven and Todd Roberts and Keith Hudgins officiating.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Lamesa Memorial Cemetery in Lamesa with Mark Hackett officiating.
Fern was born on Nov. 8, 1923, in Point, Texas, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Barrett Strickland. She married Hilburn Roberts on Dec. 19, 1940, in Lamesa. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2009.
Fern had been a resident of Eastland since 2002, formerly of Lamesa. She was Church of Christ member, and was an accomplished poet published in many journals and books. She wrote for the Christian Women’s Magazine, and a daily devotional called Power for Today, as well as the Lamesa Press Reporter.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Roberts and wife Joyce of Lubbock and Larry Roberts and wife Quay of Eastland; daughter, Ann Hudgins of Sweetwater; brother, Lee Strickland of Garland; grandchildren, Rhonda Wearden and husband Ken, Steven Roberts and wife Melisa, Todd Roberts and wife Amy, Keith Hudgins and wife Robin and Tanette Romberger; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Welby Parrish, Horace Strickland and Lynn Strickland; and son-in-law, Manley Hudgins.
