Highland (1-2) won its first game of the season this past Friday by defeating Novice, 70-52.
Steven Texter had scoring runs of 33, 6, 2 and 29 yards and finished with 239 yards on 23 carries. Tyler Falcon (90 yards) had TD runs of 21 and 23 yards; Ron Covington (79 yards) scored on a 4-yard run; and Ethan Wilson scored on a 20-yard run and also threw a 1-yard TD pass to Jordan Rowan. Tester also kicked eight extra points. Covington and Wilson were 4-of-6 passing for 47 yards. Rowan caught two passes and Shelby Howard and Gaga Wibowo one. Tester had six tackles, one assist, a fumble recovery and an interception; Falcon had eight tackles; Wilson had six tackles; Covington had four tackles and five assists; Wibowo had four tackles and three assists; Howard had three tackles and five assists; Rowan had three tackles and one assist; and Zack Cornett had two tackles.
Lueders-Avoca 44, Blackwell 20
Ethan Andrews was 11-of-21 passing for 148 yards and threw two TD passes to Mark Monroe, and Jayden Jones also had a scoring run, but Blackwell (0-3) was held scoreless by Lueders-Avoca after leading 20-12 at halftime on Saturday. Matthew Meyer had a conversion run and Kaleb Edwards and Jones both ran for 43 yards for Blackwell in its homecoming game. Also, Franck Cano ran for 27 yards and Bennie Wester nine. Jones caught two passes for 63 yards; Monroe caught five passes for 38 yards; Edwards had three catches for 14 yards; and Mason Magness had a 33-yard catch. On defense, Magness led the way with nine tackles and two assists for Blackwell while Edwards had six tackles and four assists; Ted Chambliss had five tackles, two for a loss, and two assists; Monroe had five tackles; and Andrew Fields had one tackle and one assist.
