Sweetwater High School’s tennis team lost a tri-match against Midland Christian and Andrews on Saturday in Midland. The team is at Snyder today starting at 4 p.m., and travels to San Angelo for a quad match on Saturday.
Against Midland Christian, Sweetwater lost 10-9 but played hard until the very end. Singles winners were Isaiah Hernandez (6-0, 6-1); Madison Meneses (7-3, 7-6 with 7-1 tiebreaker); Addisyn Cleckler (7-6 with 11-9 tiebreaker, 3-6, 10-7 tiebreaker); and Kristen Casto (0-6, 6-0 with 11-9 tiebreaker), while the doubles winners were Stephen Shipp and Javier Solano (8-5); Heidi Taylor and Kristen Casto (8-4); Addisyn Cleckler and Jenny Medellin (8-2); and Brittany Holmes and Vida Gamez (8-2).
Andrews beat Sweetwater by a score of 16-3 in the other match Saturday. No. 1 boys singles player Chris Hernandez won 6-3, 6-2 over Andrews’ No. 1 player Justin Lingau, while Madison Meneses won 6-4, 4-6 (7-1 tiebreaker) over No. 2 girls player Natalie Duzan in her singles match. Also, Casto won 6-1, 6-2 over the No. 5 girls singles player.
