The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at the National WASP WWII Museum, located at 210 Avenger Field Road.
Sharron Davis is at the museum as the Executive Director. The museum opened in 2005 and serves as a national point of interest. The WASP Museum has one full time employee and three part time employees.
The National WASP WWII Museum has embarked on an ambitious project in its quest for a defining museum to honor the Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII, the first women in history to fly the United States' military aircraft and forever change the role of women in aviation and in the US military.
The Museum's mission of education and inspiration for all generations fuels the drive for a new addition to the existing "Hangar One", circa 1929. The planned, climate-controlled addition will provide a world-class museum featuring a spacious lobby and gallery areas, theater setting and interactive learning capabilities, within a replica WASP-era control tower. Much needed environmentally-controlled space will enable the exhibition of precious artifacts awaiting a new home where people from all over the world can revisit a time in history that exemplifies the best of the human spirit and realize the connections to a better world tomorrow.
Some of the exhibits planned for the near future include displays of different phases of training, an Instructors' Exhibit, a diorama of the training base and displays where WASP personal stories can be heard at the touch of a button.
The Museum wishes to thank all who have contributed to this project and to the operating fund so that the museum can preserve and perpetuate the inspirational story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII. With the creation of a securities account, the WASP Museum is now able to accept the transfer of a variety of assets. "We welcome discussion of legacies or endowments or any form of support you may offer to assist us in our mission.
In addition, we are always looking for volunteers. If you would like to help with school tours, office work, or become a Homecoming Team Member, please call or write soon."
